Laura Simpson RVN

  • RVN – Practice Manager

My journey with Borden Lane Veterinary Surgery began in 1999 when, as a keen young animal lover, I spent one day a week gaining invaluable experience. After school, I jumped at the chance to train as a Veterinary Nurse, qualifying in 2003 with NVQ Levels 2 and 3. By 2004, I was leading the nursing team as Head Veterinary Nurse, a role I embraced until taking a break to welcome my first child in 2011.

Returning part-time as Assistant Practice Manager, I worked my way up to Practice Manager in September 2015. While my role now focuses more on the operational side, keeping everything running smoothly and maintaining our website, social media pages and TV system, I can’t resist a bit of hands-on nursing also. You’ll still see me around reception, catching up with clients and their furry companions!

My job may have evolved from taking blood samples and assisting in surgeries to ensuring Borden Lane runs like a well-oiled machine, but my commitment to the practice remains the same. I’m lucky to work alongside a fantastic team of vets, nurses, and receptionists who share my passion for delivering professional, compassionate care.

At home, I’m surrounded by a menagerie of rescued pets—four mischievous cats (Looshkin, Clarence, Dipper, and Mabel), a Miniature Schnauzer named Rufus, and a snake called Tulip. When I’m not in the office, I’m often on-site helping with the day-to-day running of our wonderful practice.

Linda Deadman

Finance Manager

As Finance Manager for Borden Lane, I work to keep the surgery running smoothly and, above all, to ensure you and your pets experience the highest level of care and service. I’m always just a friendly chat away, ready to assist with any questions or provide guidance on practice matters. I truly enjoy my role here and find satisfaction in every day I contribute to our team.

Since the pandemic, I’ve transitioned to working from home, creating a balance that’s been a perfect fit. While my home is now my office, I still pop into the practice from time to time, enjoying the camaraderie and connection with our fantastic team. When I’m not working, I love spending time with my two wonderful grandchildren, Rebekah and James, as well as family and friends who bring so much joy to my life.

Kristi Akhurst

Office Administrator

I joined the Borden Lane Vets team back in 2010, initially as maternity cover for reception. What started as a temporary role quickly turned into something more permanent when I was offered the position of Office Administrator—a role I’ve truly enjoyed ever since. From Monday to Thursday, you’ll typically find me upstairs in the office managing the administrative side of things. However, I also love stepping in on reception from time to time, greeting clients, and lending a hand wherever I can.

One of the highlights of my time here has been rescuing my beloved Yorkshire Terrier, Dot. She came to us as a puppy with a broken front leg, but after her recovery, she’s proven that life on three legs doesn’t slow her down in the slightest! Dot’s resilience and spirit never fail to amaze us, and she now enjoys a happy, full life with me.

When I’m not at work, I cherish the quieter moments—whether it’s going for long walks, diving into a good book, or spending quality time with my son. Each day brings new adventures, both at the practice and at home, and I feel lucky to be part of such a dedicated and caring team.
