Microchipping

Pets can easily become lost and this is obviously heart-breaking for owners.

From 6 April 2016 it became compulsory for owners to ensure their dog is microchipped and their details are kept up to date.

By implanting a tiny microchip into the skin of your pet, this makes them permanently identifiable – each microchip has an individual identification number, which is stored with the owner’s details on a central database.

If a lost pet is taken in by a veterinary practice, rescue centre, police or dog warden, they will be scanned with a special scanner to locate their identification number and the owner can be quickly traced via the database.
